Problems with Counter Strike ans Steam

in an effort to solve CSS and CS from crashing i uninstalled Steam, CSS and CS 1.6;deleted them completely

Then reinstalled them.

-->Now the Server list wont populate in either CS version and it will lock up and i have to turn comp off manually. I have enough memory !

i ran virus checks with AVG and Adaware also

tell me what to do
 
Does it crash as soon as you click 'Join server'? If so, this is firewall-related.

Open your firewall and give it access to the internet, and allow it to at as a server.

If you dont want the firewall open, make sure to turn off WINDOWS firewall.
 
Check your prefernces for severs list4ed. You might have the ping or the map name written in incorrectly.
