problems with dell u2711 @ 2560x1440 resolution w/ ati 5770

Im using windows 7 64 bit

i have a dell 27 inch u2711 which has a native resolution of 2560x1440.

my new graghics card is a ati xfx 5770

for the life of me i cant get things to look right. sometimes things look good on websites and such (if i press ctrl+ +).. but then i go open my photoshop and the words are so small they are unreadable. the text doest fit my address bar either

dell and xfx dont have customer help numbers.. only have to send them an email which is frustrating.

ive tried setting a text size (dpi) but that is no help either.

i "think" i saw somewhere before i ordere my card that to use that high a resolution i needed to use 2 dvi cords. My monitor has 2 dvi inputs (among many other).. but when i insert 2 cords in the monitor and the graghics card.. only my desktop wallpaper is visable. No icons or mouse cursor appear after boot up.

just to throw this in, all updated drivers were downloaded last night and i am using a amd 9750 processor with a 450 watt corsair PS.

system is a gateway dx4300.. mods i have done to it are the 5770, power supply and windows 7 upgrade

Does the monitor support other resolutions like 1080? You could set it for that as one option.

I read the latest 10.3 driver upgrade and it says it fixes some monitor resolution issues. Maybe it will fix yours?
 
So basically you're saying, because you have such a high resolution you're struggling to read the text etc? I'm not sure on this one, maybe some of the other members will have something to say about this.
 
I received my U2711 today and I have struggled with the same problem so far. I have to set the resolution to 1600 x 900 to be able to work with my computer. My video card is GTX260, updating the driver did not help either.

why such a weird resolution? never heard of that one... perhaps the resolution is just too high for that size and so things appear too small.
