Problems with dual boot setup

I got myself a new Laptop running 7 Home Edition, and needed to run some old software. Unfortunately, it would not run in 7, although it would in XP on my old Laptop.
I decided to try to get a 7 & XP dual boot system to solve my problem, but ran into troubles and wonder if somebody could help me. This is what I did:

I first created a new Partition by shrinking the main C: Partition containing 7. Then I got into the BIOS setup program and changed the Boot sequence from HD first to CD first. After loading in the XP disk, I re-booted and everything went fine, the CD started to install Windows XP but, when after the announcement "Installing Windows", the system "Blue Screened" on me. The text announced that the system had encountered a problem and had stopped further action. It suggested that if I had changed my hardware to check any new disk for errors, etc. I checked the new partition for errors and found none. I tried several times to redo it, with the same results.

Has anyone any ideas why the installation of XP stopped and what I can do about getting it going again? I sure like to have the dual boot available to me.

First, you didn't mention what the specs of the comp are.
Second, if this is a newer comp you may have driver issues because XP doesn't have drivers for some newer hardware, we mentioned that to you in another thread.
Third, as a general rule the oldest OS gets installed first.

I made this a new thread because I thought that this would be a new problem, and yes, you mentioned about the drivers in my other posting.
I read in the instructions about dual booting that you should leave the original OS alone, and not remove it totally and install the older OS (in this case XP) first, as you suggest.
Besides, that does not work, as you must be aware from my older posting.

I do not quite understand your remark about the specs of the Laptop. (It is a Toshiba Satelite C855D-S5230). Where do I find that and what am I looking for?

Go to the Toshiba website and look in the support section for XP drivers for your model.
If they don't have them you may not get it to work.
