Problems With duuuust!

G'day I just thought of a brillant idea!! Dust is building up in my CPU fan and Heatsink so I was going to just remove the fan but then I saw this video clip. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3k9Ube9BBs) That shows that the hole bloody thing has to come off... heatsink and all. If I rip the heatsink off and blow out all the dust then throw it back on will it effect the headsinks cooling ability? Since I would have broken the bond that the thermal paste created between the CPU and heatsink when it was first put in.

Thanks

Hi there; it would be fine to blow compressed air onto the heatsink once it is detached from the ZIF socket, but I do suggest you to clean the old thermal paste from the CPU and the bottom of the heatsink and re-apply a small amount onto the center of the heatsink bottom.

Just be careful when you remove the heatsink and when you apply new thermal paste.

Mhmm.. I don't have any lieing around so I think I may just leave it alone and just get the vacuum cleaner onto it :D

Thanks Anyways :)

Sweet!! Too bad I live in the Taranaki region. Around New Plymouth to be exact..

Too too bad i've already done it aswell. It was really horrible Dust under the CPU fan! It was like a pastey mix of Dust and Moisture. It took quite alot of work to get it off! I actually broke the fan in the process.. And bent some of the Heatsink fins aswell.. :( I don't know what im going to do about it now. Its not a serious brake. For example the CPU fan still fits on perfectly but I don't know if its going to stay that way. Now the thing also takes ages to boot up! Mhmm.. Maybe that will change after a while..? Or not Haha
