Problems with IE

Internet Explorer has recently become pretty slow.

I also have a problem, where, whenever i close a window it will pop up with this message [attatched]

it will also intermittently stop working and close, causing me to lose whatever i was looking at.

obviously this is very annoying, and if there is a way to fix this, it would be greatly appretiated if someone could this explain this to me.

thanks, Dan.

Which version of Windows are you running XP or Vista? If XP IE 6 or 7? For Vista being that IE 7 is build into the new version rather then being a separate component you would likely have to turn off the DEP(data execution protection) as a temporary means of avoiding problems at times with IE 7 There.

For XP either IE 6 or 7 can be removed to see a fresh copy of the browser downloaded from Microsoft directly in order to replace the current. That means first backing up your favorite and links to a separate folder out of the DocumentsandSettings>user name>favorites and favorites>links folders to another temp folder to later copy back in once a fresh copy was installed.

thats windows Xp but didn't specify version of IE.

Re-installing ? am not sure that will help cause i've bumped into sun C runtime errors and sometimes windows repair was to be called.
try booting safe mode first see if it works, while you're in there do a CHKDSK /F in the run box, then restart your computer

In safe mode you won't be able to get online in most cases. Either IE 6 or 7 can still be downloaded for reinstall in XP but not in Vista. The chkdsk utility is for examining the drive itself for bad sectors and any errors in boot/partition table information there. The system file checker is one for verification and repair of any damaged or missing system files.

you can go online in safe mode, depend if you selected "safe mode without networking".
anyway for some reason i think Shadow_Conspiracy might be infected, might as well post a log, so we can help.
can be a BHO, not functioning or something

On Vista installation here I ended turning off the DEP. When someone else was seeing the same problems in XP the simple task apparently worked out. That was with IE 7 seeing a lesser problem of simply not being able to get to the home page.

Running the sfc /scannow command at the Run prompt as well as seeing a fresh copy installed would likely clear that up with a repair or full reinstallation of Windows. Running a sweep of the system with antivirus and antispyware tools wouldn't hurt any either. Ad-Aware still likes to find browser hijackers.

When going to copy dsl help files from one drive to another AVG came to live pointing out an I-Worm and deleted them. Those turned out to be the url ad links for Kaspersky! Talk about beating the competition.

By "log", do you mean a HijackThis log?

if so;

check the following

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {5D86DDB5-BDF9-441B-9E9E-D4730F4EE499} (BDSCANONLINE Control) -
O16 - DPF: {11260943-421B-11D0-8EAC-0000C07D88CF} - http://www.ipix.com/download/ipixx.cab

anyway seems you have a yahoo toolbar which is ok,hell you even use IMVU,that program sucks.
anyway i don't see anything wrong with the log, maybe am wrong, but in the mean time download BHO captor which will allow you to disable BHO from your browser , only then will you know where the problem lies.
i will check the log again though

may i ask what are those ?

O1 - Hosts: 172.16.10.10 db-sbs
O1 - Hosts: 172.16.10.11 db-sql
???

was your host file messed with ? clear them

Ok so i "fixed" all of those things you highlighted.

i also acquired antivir anti-virus, scanned and found 27 infections ¬_¬

Ad-aware also found 66 spyware and 12 problems with my registry keys.

AFAIK the combination of all 3 of these fixes has cured my problem, but i will post again in this thread if i notice the problem has come back again.

Thanks for your help! Dan.
