Problems with McAfee Installation

Hello,

I am having some problems installating both McAfee 7 and McAfee 8 VirusScan on my system. The first time I tried to install it, the install program stopped responding after it got 90% through registering the services and files. Its strange, the files are there, and it looks like the processes are running, but there are no icons in the system tray, and there is no entry in add/remove programs. Now whenever I try to install over top of it to complete the installation correctly, it hangs when trying to launch the Windows installer. Any suggestions? I updagred my Windows Installer to the latest version. It is not an issue with virus/spyware because I cleaned the system.

try a manual uninstall of mcafee, (see link) reboot and reinstall.

Edit: Also, on the reinstall, close any non necessary programs before you try it. Make sure your not running any other virus scanners or spyware scanners during the install.

McAfee isn't the jewel on the Anti-Virus software business. However, a freeware Anti-Vir is very easy to use and extremely effective at removing most viruses and other malware that can find its way on to your computer. Search www.download.com for Anti-Vir and it should come up. As long as you aren't going to install it on corporate computers, then they don't care (aka personal use). Good Luck with the process!
