It stays on all day. Its restarting itself randomly, and when it does, there is usually a new ip address assigned. When I run a speed test it tell me the IP.
The above speeds were taken within a 5 min period. As you can see the speeds are up and down wildly. But all are very bad considering we should get about 9-10mb (that's what we use to get anyway).. and ping is really useless (cant go gaming or anything) .. having to tether my 4g connection from phone.
What do you think is going on? TalkTalk have said the line is ok and they are quick to blame modem or anything other than their service, but we are waiting for them to do a more thorough check. These speeds are unusable and dial-up speeds half the time! We'd move from TalkTalk, but need to be sure that it isn't a problem outside of TalkTalk such as the line or something. We've plugged the wifi router modem in to the main socket, and this still got same bad speeds.
OK so we're starting to get some where now. We've moved from TalkTalk to PlusNet, and whilst the speeds were better, the on and off started. We've put the router downstairs and plugged in to the main phone line. It has stopped going on and off. However, our local exchange limits our speed to a max of 3mbps for 3 days when it detects multiple line problems (explaining why the speeds would suddenly drop and then go back to normal).
It seems as though there is a line issue somewhere upstairs, so once the speed returns we're going to test that it keeps on and then call out engineer to fix upstairs line problem.
I've now got another problem though! Since the wifi modem was put down stairs my desktop can't get internet from it. (nothing to do with singal etc, all other device can get it etc). I've took a screenshot of the errors detected on Windows 7. Can anyone advise what I need to do?
PC connects to modem and then can't get internet from it. I can get internet fine from my phone tethering.
