Hi everyone,
I'm a little bogged down here, I just bought a 640g WD sataII disk, I installed it as plug and play hardware using WD utility software.
Problems are: the OS always display a "remove pnp hardware" icon in my sys tray, but this is not the big issue, what really gets on my neck is the disk just disconnect randomly from my system while I'm still using my comp. The disk is fine upon next-time reboot, that is to say, it can be recognise in both BIOS and OS. Everything is fine until it disconnect again.
I've tried to change both data cord and power cord, it doesn't work.
Symptom: When you are like playing a song, and all of a sudden the song freezes and repeat a certain section until windows tells ya the location you referred is no longer available blah blah blah
Also, following "anomaly" is observed: every time I reboot my pc, my firewall is disabled, I can enable it manually but it appears to have been disabled again the next time I reboot my comp. I've runned virus scan using 2 anti-virus software, all report nothing.
The whole fuss started after I've partitioned the harddrive. Before I partitioned the hardrive, everything is fine.
I personally believe it has nothing to do with hardware connection (or this problem will emerge much much earlier before I partitioned it)
I think the problem has something to do with the "partitionization" of this hardware, and somehow connected with the whole p'n'p mechanism.
I've googled this problem, but I can't find a way to roll back or simply delete the driver software and let windows install it by its own (instead of using WD utility software)
I need suggestions, any suggestions will be appreciated. Also how can I disable the annoying p'n'p icon in my systray? It's a darn internal drive, I don't need it.
Also, will this situation do any damage to my harddrive? I'm quite sure after disconnection, the drive is still running. But I'm not sure whether the writer-arm will crash into the surface of the physical disk and leave some darn mark.
My configuration:
MOBO: Asus M2N-MX SE with latest BIOS burnt
1 old seagate harddrive, IDE, DMA 33
1 SATA2 640G WD
AMD dual-core 4000+
1 old p4 ATX 2.03 500Watt power source
1 pioneer DVD RW
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
