Problems with Windows 2000 Pro

I have recently installed this OS on the PC I'm using right now, it used to have Win ME, which is probably by far the worst Windows that has ever existed.

The PC runs way better than it used to overall, but I do have one big hell of a problem: I recieve an error message that says "can't find the specified file" when I try to install a program.

Programs I've tried to install:

Adobe Reader
Winzip
W2KSP4 (service pak 4)
Windows installer 3.1
And a few more.

Basically anything that has to be extracted or self-extracts.

Could this be a problem with the temporary folder, or not enough RAM? (128)

I've scanned the hard drive for errors (complete surface scan), ran virus and spyware checks... I have Spyware Doctor and AVG Free antivirus installed on my PC, I don't know if either could be interfering with my PC's performance.

Any help will be appreciated.

Obviously I have saved them into my PC first, then tried to install them.

I'm not using direct acccess icons either.

saved them on the pc? did u do like an upgrade? where it kept everything u still had? have you tried redownloading them?

Yes, everything I try to install is saved on the PC (the installation file)

I didn't do an upgrade, I re-formatted the hard drive, thus wiping out Windows ME, and installed Windows 2000. (FAT32 format)

I've tried re-downloading them and had the same results.

Does Error code 2 tell you anything? Is something I keep getting as well.

I think the issue is solved for good

I finally tried and turned off all anti-spyware and anti-virus programs before attempting to install any programs.

Voila!

I was able to install programs. So I proceeded to...

Install Service Pak 4

Apparently, when you have an outdated Win 2000 Pro (without any service paks installed) you will get problems like I was.

This time around, I have installed two programs successfuly, and I didn't even have to turn off AVG Anti virus or Spyware Doctor.

I think that the issue is solved for good.

Based on my experience, I would recommend installing Service Pack 4 as soon as you install Windows 2000 Professional(remember to install the service pack with the same language of your Windows version) before installing any antiviruses or anti-spywares to avoid this particular issue.
