My desktop currently has a Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz, which I've been quite pleased with. I want to buy a laptop with equal or greater power than my desktop.
The laptops I'm looking at mostly offer one of the following CPUs:
Intel i5-2450M
Intel i5-2430M
Intel i3-2350M
From what I can tell, those processors are roughly equivalent (2 cores with hyperthreading to support 4 threads, 3MB cache, 2.30-2.50 GHz) with one notable difference being that the i5's offer TurboBoost to allow boost of speed from overclocking.
My usage is heavy multitasking, but not with resource intensive softwares. It's not uncommon for me to have 3 browsers open with 5 tabs each many of which are web apps, multiple file folders, text editor, Skype, and word processor. But I rarely use image editing or video editing software.
Would any all of the above CPUs offer me equal or better performance than my current desktop's CPU? One of my concerns is that my current CPU has an 8MB cache - the ones listed above all have a 3MB cache.
Thanks for the input!
