Processor downgrade???

Hello all!
Does someone know a program under winXP that can change the CPU speed. I would like to test how long my notebook will work on 1 Ghz compared to the usual 2Ghz.

When I'm working on batteries I use only Word - so I believe that all that computing power from 2 Ghz is absolutely not necessary.

Thank you in advance!

some amd underclock themselves when running on batteries.

is it a intel or amd? i know asus has a program to underclock a processor, it may not work with a non asus computer.

maybe there are similar programs

SpeedswitchXP does well. I use it and keep my laptop underclocked to 800MHz. Realize you can't manually enter your speed, but you can set to say Max Battery, which in the case of my laptop, is half it's clock speed.

pretty sure even the intel mobile processors made in the last few years effectively underclock themselves when you're not using them to their full potential by adjusting their running voltages

i wouldn't expect any change in battery life by manually adjusting the clock

what processor is that?

that's a nice improvement

i had a sony laptop with a 3.06, and i was lucky to get an hour out of it......
