Processor question

I'm looking at getting a basic notebook and found one that seems relatively good, but I'm not so sure about the processor. It has an

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual-core processor TK-55

Does anyone know how good it is?

Heres the link to the notebook...

The 1.8Ghz X2 is a very good processor, and will handle pretty much anything.

As for the notebook, it seems like a really good one for the price after savings.

I would guess most of the people on this forum would say AMD is better than Intel. So nothing bad about AMD. And AMD chips tend to be cheaper in price than Intel. Also I've seen bench tests that show AMD's out perform Intel cpus. I'd go AMD. ;)

Uuh, no. Intel is much better than AMD right now and most the forum would agree with me. AMD is more for the budget consumer right now although Intel's Core 2 Duo's are rather reasonably priced right now.

okay, well considering the computer and the AMD processor, and that im looking for a basic computer, would you recommend this?

Should be fine for internet browsing, school work stuff, and things of that similar simple nature.

so is it just not that good?

Tell us what you would be using it for and we'll tell you whether or not it would be good for it. I have a dell laptop with the next step up processor the TL60 2ghx x2. I'm happy with it. And i'm strictly an Intel person. Desktop is in my signature. The only reason why I have an amd based laptop is because I wanted a laptop but only with XP, didn't want vista so I had to stick with Amd. Dell and I believe IBM are the only ones still offering XP laptops but only certain models.

I ordered a Dell laptop with similar specs (the processor is the exact same one). I should be receiving it in two weeks. I will let you know how it works.

I had done some research before I ordered it, and many reviews say that TK-55 (Athlon dual core) is a lower budget processor of TL-55 (which is Turion dual core).
The main difference will be at their L2 Cache (512 KB for TK-55 and 1 MB for most TLs).
L2 cache won't matter a lot if you don't use intense programs.

Another thing to put into consideration is that TK-55 is a dual core processor, so it should be good enough for a lot of basic daily tasks (Word, Excel, Power Point, browsing the Internet, playing elder games).
So I would say that AMD TK-55 isn't a bad choice, and compared to Intel, AMD is known to be more inexpensive in price.

However, instead of that HP you were looking at Bestbuy, why don't you take a look at Dell?
I got mine for about CAD $690 including tax (I'm residing in Canada at the moment), and the laptop's specs will be similar to the one you were looking at.

Hope this helps man.
