Processor socket upgrade.

I really don't know if this should go here or in the processor and CPU section, but i think this has to do withe the motherboard more than anything. I have a HP DV6605US laptop with a AMD 1.8 GHz Athlon x2 Dual-core processor and its toooooo slow for me so i want to put at least a 2.6 GHz processor in it, but the socket type prevents a processor over 2.0 GHz to go into it because it is a "S1" socket. Is it anyway possible to swipe out the old socket and put in a new one, or is the socket built into the motherboard. Or are there external processors that can be added through a USB or other port, doubt it but just wanted to ask, thanks allot.

There is no way at all to upgrade the socket, you will have to buy a new laptop if you want to upgrade.

OK, Holy crap calm down, I'm just asking simple questions. I found a AMD processor thats 2.4 GHz and it fits a A1 pin, the TL-68 model. Has anyone had any luck with it? Dose anyone know a good place to order one from with a reasonable price.

It is so difficult to upgrade internal laptop components..99% of the time it is not worth the risk, time, effort, and cost.

Even if you could do it--its gonna cost alot.

Your best bet is to maybe look at upgrading the ram, maybe a faster hdd, but other than that save your $$ for a new laptop or stick with that one.

I have 4 GB of ram (on a 32 bit system, so its really 3.2 GB) and my HD has something around 5400 RPM, so how fast can i get it to go and will i have to just buy a new HD or can i upgrade the speed. + i have a external HD and its speed it 7200 RPM, so thats good enough for me.

Anyways, I found some more AMD processors that fit a S1 socket, like the TL-66 2.3 GHz model and near the end of the year they will have a model called the ZM-88 and thats a 2.5 GHz model, so i think I might spend the $300+ for it (and yes it will cost that much for a upgrade thought the HP website for it, i emailed them).
