Generally speaking upgrading processors in laptops is not an easy task, you should have just bought a better laptop from the start.

What model laptop do you have?

dont worry about that i know how to build computers i just wanted an outside opinion on what processor i can upgrade to, like what do you think is the best and the max improvement that will work with my motherboard, the laptop is a samsung 350V5C,
like i said your help will be appreciated

Looks like Samsung sell them with the Pentiums (which is what you've got), i3s, i5s and i7s, so assuming this is your laptop http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-350...qid=1366124825&sr=1-5&keywords=samsung+350v5c it looks like you can probably put an i7 3630QM in there, or an i5 or an i3 if you want to save money.

I'm not 100% guaranteeing that it will work, but it might. I personally wouldn't bother upgrading the processor, too much hassle, but if you're prepared to try, I think an i7 3630QM is probably the fastest CPU you can put in there.

Remember workstation computers are entirely ergonomically different to laptops due to the size and shape. It is easier just to buy a better laptop, because when you open it up, your warranty is void.

Unfortunately that isn't the same one, but i have done some research on it and it seems that the motherboard is the same so I'm thinking that it should support the CPU I have contacted Samsung to enquire about the processor just to be safe, hopefully they should contact me soon, but I do think that it will support the i7 and if so this would be great, this is just because I have 3 laptops now, an acer aspire 5551 as my central laptop, an acer aspire 5920 with Ubuntu installed and I am using it as a server, and now I have this new laptop which I want to use as a gaming laptop, I would have used the acer aspire 5551 but unfortunately it is amd and I'm not completely familiar with amd architecture so I'm not gonna change the processor in that one plus it would be a hassle transferring all my files across, I do know that the acer aspire 5551 can be upgraded from the Athlon is x2 to the phenom range but like I said it would be a hassle to transfer the files. Thank you so much for your help.

before i do upgrade what are your comments on the pentium b970?

Ummm... it's good for browsing the web and maybe for your general day to day stuff but probably not great for stuff like heavy gaming (though it'll probably be OK for light gaming) and photo/video editing etc.

What do you do with your laptop? If you're just checking emails or surfing the web with it, then I see no reason, or very little reason, to upgrade to something more powerful.

@OP Yes. It is possible. It is rare to find laptop CPU on amazon and newegg, but ebay is biggest possible to find one that it was removed from used laptop or new one. You just need to read spec and it should say FCPGA988 on socket. Easily way to search is type "i5 FCPGA988" with no quota on search bar. If find one, please show me CPU you're plan to buying, just in case if you have no clue.

It will work. I'm sure. I had upgraded CPU in laptop before. Very easy.
