Processor Upgrade

Hopefully I can get some help. I had a friend of mine put a computer together for me and the motherboard is an ASUS M3A78-CM. It's currently running Windows 7 Ultimate, 8 gbs. of ram. I want to upgrade the processor so it'll be better for the kids to play their games and whatnot. Any help would be great! Thx!

What processor does it have now?

I'd personally recommend a Phenom II X4 955. That should be pretty decent. Just be sure you have the right BIOS version to support it. It requires this one: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M3A78CM/HelpDesk_CPU/

Ok I'm gonna go with the processor you recommended. I went to the link for the bios and it downloaded a ROM file. How do I use it? I'm sorry but I'm not that computer savvy. I will follow your directions to the letter though. Thx

For the bios update, put the rom file on a usb flash drive then boot to bios use the asus ezflash bios update utility, point the update to the rom file and let it go.

My board says it's compatable for AM2+ but the processor you recommended is AM3.... will it still work?

Yes it will still work. He posted the cpu support page for your motherboard. Just make sure you update the bios to latest version.
