Processors

Hi,
I'm just curious, but I would like to know if people find Intel Processors better than AMD Processors and if not, please tell why. I would also like to know if an AMD Duron 995Mhz processor is slow, "Out-of-date" or in other words, OLD.

Thanks.

Read CPU101 for the basics on processors and the differences between AMD and Intel. That Duron is old....

Yes, I find AMD better than Intel because I cna get the same performance at a lower pricetag most of the time, and sometimes better performance for a very small price increase.

The Duron is old, and "out-of-date", but it will still suit you fine if you don't do much on it. Computers now are getting to 4GHz off the shelf, but i have seen 5GHz+...so yah 995MHz is ancient lol.

Oh okay.. I guess I should go buy a new processor..lol..or maybe buy a new computer instead..my computer is kinda old too.

What model is this 5ghz model, you speak of.

INTEL or AMD are better processer, each is betetr in its own way doing different things, It generally depens on what your using it for, and that duron is ou of date, if you want a cheap small upgrade i can sell you a Duron 1200Mhz for only 10$'s plus shipping.

e-mail me at [email protected] if interested.

There isn't a 5GHz model, but i have seen Intel's overclocked with liquid nitrogen hit past 5GHz (and i believe stay stable.)

Oh, i see I thought you ment you have seen 5Ghz models off the shelf, and whats the 4Ghz model you are talking about? that you see of the shelf.. and your comparing Intels clock speed to his AMD.

Which comparing that to his 900Mhz AMD is, well not fair lol, dont AMD's go up to 2.6Ghz? or somewhere along those lines. I'm not sure.

i think 2.6GHz is right. an AMD or Intel at 995MHz any make or model is still outdated...but again still ok if hes just surfing the web or something.

I never paid attention to my processor until the other day while i was checking out this game. There's a bunch of minimum requirements like "At least 600Mhz processor." So I wondered how fast my processor was and I was surprised. This would explain the lag in the game I tried. Lol..

Yes, but a 995Mhx intel model is allot more outdated then a 995Mhz AMD model, and your corpmaring it to a INTEL, and i still want to see the 4ghz models of the shelf?

What do you use/want to use you computer for? if games do you want the highest newest games on the best setting possible? are you fine with low settings? will you be playing the new games even? or games at all?

since i assume you have a socket A motherboerd i suggest you get a SocketA AMD Sempron3000+ that runs at 2000 MHz, this may be above your price range, so you could get a Sempron 2800+ @ also 2000 MHz, but only have a 256k L2 Cache instead of 512k or you could get the sempron 2600+ running @ 1833 MHz with a 256KB, which is still a pretty good CPU, and will be MUCH faster then your current one.

make you you get the socket A ones, not the 754-pin ones, and these should suit you will enough as long as your not doing anything huge like video editing and stuff, it'll run HL-2 just fine if your into games.

im saying...it doesn't matter which mdel is older. they are still both VERY outdated if they aren't even 1GHz.

i gave you a link to the release of the 4GHz processors, they will be stock 4GHz off the shelf when they come out in the near future. I said, "Computers now are getting to 4GHz off the shelf" and that's exactly what I am showing you.

4w4k3, you should know that the inquirer is not the best spot to look for computer related facts. But to answer the question, it is out of date if you want to use newer games/applications. But it should be fine for word processing and internet.

and flame, are you trying to become a mod cause your posting has become alot different... lol

Nope, well sort of, I applyed to be a mod for the comptuer equipment for sale sections beucase spammers were pissing me off and it was a full day before they were deleted some times, other then that, I wouldn't want to be a mod, because then i would feel it wouldn't be right for me to say some of the things that I do. I never got word back from that application....

Edited the last part because that is for a post that i will make in another 359 posts.

Also just to add, some of my posts are more knowlegdble then others, even on the exact same thing, because of what i can remeber, something is pretty messed up with my memory(and basicly most of my sences) sometimes i;ll read the same thing mutilble times and still not remeber it, actully more of what i read satys with me, but if you wanted me to tell you what I did yesterday, that would be harder.

it's not a computer related fact...it's a news bulletin/buying tip. if you are interested in getting the best of the bunch...maybe wait till these new chips come out soon from Intel.

Alll i was saying is your comparison is unfair.

how is it unfair? this is quite simple.

the Intel 995MHz processor is old
the AMD 995MHz processor is old
therefore...they are both old. i said nothing about what is BETTER, or which one is more recent...they are still both OLD, simply because both AMD and Intel make chips now that are far superior. if i wanted to compare the 2, i would, but i'm not...im simply stating the fact they are both quite old and out of date.

but i wont disagree with you that they are still usable for simple tasks on the computer. even very light gaming.

well you were comaring how old they were to a 4Ghz proccesser.

i was showing him how outdated they were, which is a valid argument.

to show someone how old something is, it's a good idea to put it into perspective with something new. that way they can see how advanced today's stuff is, compared to there stuff...so they know i'm not just BSing a bunch of facts.

if i jsut told him it's old, and thats it...it's not too convinvcing. but if i show him today's processors, and compare to his processor, he can see jsut how old it really is. there is a significant difference, which is easily notifiable.

i could left that bit out about the new processors now, but i bet you his next question would have been, "well, if my processor is so old, how does it compare to today's new processors? is there a significant advantage if i upgrade?" that'd be the smart question anyways.

however, my old compaq was a 1.1Ghz (not that far off from 995Mhz), and i could play UT2004 and some other games pretty well, and could browse the web and stuff like that fine, so its not real old... just in terms of trying to use the newer games/apps.

and i tried to become a mod like 5+ times, but it never happened. and why dont they message or e-mail u and say why you didnt make it, so you can improve on a topic?
