Program iPod compatible with online storage?

Hello all. I am in search of a program to sync music to my iPod and be able to save all of my music files online somewhere or be able to save them onto an external hard drive. If that is iTunes, I would be fine with that. That is what I currently use for my iPod but I don't know how to save my files onto an external hard drive or online. I know some computer basics and such but not much beyond that. If any of you can suggest something I would be much appreciative. thank you :)

Go to My Documents>My Music and copy your itunes folder onto your external drive.

That would save all the bought and imported music (from CDs). If you have mp3 files, you'll need to copy and paste the folders or files onto your external drive.
