PROJECT: Building my first computer (help & suggestions)

ASUS "A8N-SLI Deluxe" nForce4 SLI Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU - $189.00
-question, since its SLI does that mean i have to use TWO cards (requirement) or can i just use ONE for the time being and add the other later

AMD Athlon 64 3400+, 512k L2 Cache, The Only 64-bit Windows Compatible Processor - $219.00
-is this good enough? i really want an FX-55 but that's ****ing 700+ so hell no, i was thinking of going 3000/3200? or just stick with this 3400+?

That a skt 939 motherboard and that a skt 754 cpu. In other words those 2 parts are not compatable with each other. I would recommend a athlon 64 3500+.

what's skt mean?

stands for socket. It is the interface on the motherboard that the cpu goes into. The number of pins on the cpu have to fit with the interface on the motherboard.

and dam the 3500+ is expensive! why so?

It a good cpu and that what amd set the cost at :P

One more thing am asuming your purpose is gaming. This is correct?

i believe ya and it also cost like 40 more than the one i was looking at

AND HELL YEAH IT'S FOR GAMING :P

(half life 2 mostly) and of course, digital graphics/media, movie watching

mmm, idk if ATI videocards are compatable with that motherboard (sli is only with niviva right?) and id probley get corsair ram, get an 80 gig 10000 rpm raptor drive for programs, and have a second, slower one for files. also, take a look at the thermaltake tsunami dream case, i have it and i love it: here are links to some of the stuff i mentioned:

the raptor hd: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=22-144-160&DEPA=1

case i like: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=11-133-132&DEPA=1

It will work fine with just one graphic card.

I dont believe he has any need for a raptor. The performance increase is so small and they cost a bunch.

ah dam, one day i would like to have SLI-Graphics, i guess i better shop around for a Nvidia card then

yeah the raptor is a bit more since i will buy two and it's half the size :(

i like your case though (but has a power supply included and it's steel)

thanks for your feedback though

Whats wrong with steel?

oops

i meant to say, mine has a power supply and is steel

his is alumnium and doesn't have an included power supply - it's still good, i'm just trying to keep my cost down ;)

holy shit, i been checking out Nvidia cards for my SLI-graphics

the cheapest is around $500, that's sick

anyone know if ATI is gonna come out with SLI compatitible cards? and would i be able to use it on my Nvidia motherboard?

you can get 6600GT that works with SLI. They cost like $180 each. That cheaper then $500.

someone correct me if I wrong but I think the nofrce4 SLI motherboards uses nvidia SLI. The name sorta indicate to me that even if ati came out with SLI they could not use these motherboards.

i been looking at the 6600GT, and hell yeah $360 is so much better than just 1 freakn $500 card

lol i know right, freakn 'nvidia sli-board', cutting out ATI like that  but hmm...never know, i read Tom's Hardware ordeal about that, they tried using an ATI card or something and i think it worked, i forget cuz they were doing some weird shit with Nvidia + ATI (one of each), crazy mofos

Well I did not mean ati card would not work on the motherboard. Ati cards will work fine. What I ment is ATI cards cannot run in SLI mode.

XION Black/Silver ATX Gaming PC Case With 450W PSU, Model "XON-002" - $70.49
Nice case, looks like a cheaper version of the Navigator ... dont use the measly 18A PSU though... (have a read through http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=10764 to see what to look for in a PSU)

ASUS "A8N-SLI Deluxe" nForce4 SLI Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU - $189.00
You should consider the MSI Neo4 and DFI Lanparty boards as they are superior in virtually every way.

EVGA nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Video Card, 128MB GDDR3, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, PCI-Express, Model "128-P2-N368-TX" - $179.00 x 2
Yeah youll defintely want a better PSU

SAMSUNG SyncMaster 715v(Black) 17" TFT LCD Monitor - $239.99
That's a 25ms LCD screen .... which is bad (meaning it should cost less than it does). Try and aim for 16ms or lower

and dam the 3500+ is expensive! why so?
An extra +2 on the HTT multiplier and more so the inclusion of dual channel support

It a good cpu and that what amd set the cost at
Ironically if you wait a bit you can get the 3800s fairly cheap as AMD tries to bleed them off the market for their E0s :D

I dont believe he has any need for a raptor
That's because they dont need it ;)

yeah the raptor is a bit more since I will buy two and it's half the size
Have a read at http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=10947

Whats wrong with steel?
Nothing, some people prefer aluminum :)

Actually cheapest is like $180USD (6600GT)

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-130-487&depa=1 - $179.00 - and it has a Creative labs SB 7.1 onboard sound - THANK YOU FOR THAT

Yeah youll defintely want a better PSU
i suppose i'll look for a new case or buy a new power supply

Yeah 25ms is actually quite poor :P

i shall

Save your money, the 6800GT is significantly more value to it.
