Protected document in Microsoft Word

This may seem like a funny question to ask. But, if a document is created in Microsoft Word and is done as a protected document and needs a password to unprotect it if you want to make changes.... is there any way to find or figure out the password if you don't know it?

Thank you for your response.. I was hoping that there was a free way to do it.

If the Word let you print the document then print it in a pdf then save pdf as rtf in Adobe Acrobat.
