Protection against network browsing/im/email monitoring

Is there a program that would protect me from browsing/im/email etc. monitoring implemented at the network level? As in not installed locally on my computer. Aside from using Tor or encrypting my IM/Email

So you want to hide your internet activity from either a company or school which monitors traffic on the main level (servers and firewalls)?

Well for the next few weeks my dad and I have to share a car (my mom gets the other) while mine undergoes an engine swap. During that time, school gets out at 2:25 (i go to a year-round school), he picks me up from school, and takes me to his job, where I hang until 5 when I take him home and drive myself to work. My dad talked to the IT staff and said its ok if I just hopped onto their wireless. I'm not looking to subvert authority, just prevent prying eyes. I'm not inside the company so therefore I think I'm exempt from their policies because they're allowing me access to their network. Either way, I'm paranoid and enjoy my privacy. So the short answer is yes.

You are actually wrong about thinking that you can be exempt from their policies because you are not an employee, you are using their network and therefor must abide by their policies.

I see where your coming from though, but unless you are downloading illegal programs, surfing pornography sites, etc, then theres really no reason to worry. I highly doubt the IT department is going to be snooping around in your chats, they have more important things to be doing.

i agree, espcially if they know who you are then they will be fine with it.

True, and I think you would only be suspicious if you install Tor or another such proxy program.
If you're not doing anything evil, just relax and enjoy.
