I noticed I had a proxy Ip as well as my ip. Could someone explain what it means. Is it a good/ bad thing. Can I get rid of it?

My other question was I heard the ip changed every now and then. Is that true, and if so how often?
Cheers!

well a proxy ip is put in place so someone from the internet side (like these forums) wont know your real ip. A proxy ip masks it and shows them what you want them to see.
The ip does change, but it changes more often if you have a dynamic ip (cheaper) which can be everynight... aswell as every router restart. A static ip is not supposed to change... it is static :)

what do you mean you noticed. Why did you notice. If you want to get rid of it:
(assuming you are using ie)
goto tools ->intenet options -> connections -> lan settings
and the proxy options are at the bottom

aswell as every router restart.
interestingly this is not always the case, after a restart you can just pick up the same ip address from the pool depending on how fast your isp recycles them. I have a dynamic connection and sometimes it can take 2 or 3 router restarts to actually pick up a new ip

A proxy ip masks it and shows them what you want them to see.
true it masks it, but you dont really have any control over the ip that the proxy will be using, so you cant really make anyone see what you want them to see, just they cant see what you dont want them to see. If you see. :D

thanks for your replies

Trizoy how do you know if your ip is static or dynamic
you're right i'm using a router so if I restart the router this will change my ip?

to find out my ip i went on whatsmyip.com and they they gave me the 2 types, a friend of mine did the same and didnt have a proxy.
I did what you suggested but the box (use a proxy) wasn't ticked that's why I'm confused!

well there both external. Have you used any other ip reporting web site. I cant see for the life of me why you would have 2 ips, and even if you were behind a proxy (which it seems you arn't) then whatsmyip would only find the ip of the proxy - which would be 1 address not 2
