PS3 Help, Please.

Yes, problem after problem it seems.
I haven't used my PS3 often since the move to the new house, the odd movie here and there out in the living room with the family to test out the HDMI cable. Well, I just got my own TV today, so I hooked up my PS3, the AV power cord into the surge bar, the other into the PS3.. the HDMI from the PS3 to the TV, made sure the switch on the back was on... and the system won't power up.

Now this has me worried. I don't know what to do. I've unplugged the 360 from it's spot since it was getting power and swapped it with my PS3's spot... but still nothing.

It's really worrisome and disheartening... any ideas?

I guess you should call up Sony. If the power cord you are using works on your 360 then the only reason your red light isn't on is a hardware malfunction in the PS3.

I'm not using the cord with my 360, but the outlet my 360 was plugged into with it's cords, I unplugged to plug my PS3 things into... I've tried it in four different outlets now.

I don't understand why it'd have a problem now of all times... I was rarely using it since the move... it wasn't even hooked up...

I need sleep... I can't deal with all the problems coming at me at once. This whole day has been filled with nothing but problems since I woke up around 9:30am (1:32am right now). I'm extremely stressed and frustrated...
Maybe it's just my cord that's faulty...

As gamerman just said, it is more than likely a malfunction with your ps3, considering your 360 is recieving power, and your ps3 isn't.

EDIT: Woo 800 posts.

They use different power cords, the 360 has the "brick" built in, while the PS3 is just a cord without that thing to step it down.

To the OP, sorry that's really strange? Never heard of a PS3 doing that, hopefully it's still under warranty or just an easy fix.
edit- maybe try plugging it straight into the wall or all together a different outlet?

Any ideas as to why, considering it was rarely used since the move, and was even unplugged so it couldn't get any surges?

Well, I just bought it last year, so I'm guessing that it is... but my problem is, is that I can't remember where my receipt is... I'd have to go through my box, and call my dad to see if it's at his place (I bought it while staying over at his house)...

Ugh.. I'm just... so confused and I can't handle anymore problems.

I'm going to bed. I'll respond when I get up.
Thanks for the replies so far. Please keep them coming.

Yap you need the receipt. But try plugging it into it's own different outlet. I had an issue with my dell laptop not being able to charge the battery properly and it turned out being the outlet, which worked for other things.

Regardless, they both use a standard computer power cord, the Xbox just has an external power brick. I was making the assumption that she used the same power cord because you can use the same cord. If the cord worked with the 360 then its not the cords fault.

Although it doesn't seem all that plausible for your ps3 to break with little movement and use, it can still happen. Some things with technology are like that. Something may be not tested properly and may break, or you may just be one of those unlucky people who gets the 1 faulty unit out of 100,000. It happens. If you find your receipt it should be good. Maybe check the sony site and use the serial number of your PS3 to check if the warranty is in check. Maybe even call them to see if they can assist you with the fault at all. I know this may all sound basic, but sometimes resorting back to the basic measures can remedy the problem.

try and take it into another room, plug it in and see if it powers up
check if theres a switch at the back etc
if those don't work you might have to call sony up :(

I don't have a credit card, so yes, I need the receipt. Where that is, I'm not sure at the moment, but I am looking.

I've taken the PS3 out of my room and plugged it into various outlets around the house, I'm tried the power switch on the back of the console in both positions, still no red light.

Why I'd happen to crap out and get ANOTHER faulty console (The first 360 I bought went back to get swapped in the FIRST WEEK), is just beyond me and utter bull... but I guess I don't have much luck.

I'm going to go to Sony's website and look up a number soon, and hopefully I get people who I can understand to talk to... I can't stand calling a help tech line and getting people with such thick accents it's impossible to communicate...
