I am looking at getting a new power supply because my current psu is underpowered and sitting on the floor because the cables are too short... how do I know that the cables will reach per powersupply. I didnt see that on specifications on newegg. Im looking for a high watt good amp outs that will be able to run SLI and the 20+4 cables can reach the mobo

Thanks!

ps
whats modular cable

Modular cables allow you to remove the cables that you aren't using to increase airflow through the case. What cards do you intend to run in SLI? What case is it that you're having trouble reaching the mobo? What's your budget on the PSU?

Hey

I was thinking about spending up to 150 dollars for the psu. I have a full tower.. Ill get you the exact model when I have a minute. My 20+4 pin wont reach when my psu is screwed in.. I can either get an extension or new psu. I think I want to run sli with dual Directx10 cards.. So ill need a psu that will reach and be able to power the cards :)

Thanks for the help

OK, can you measure for the required cable length? When you say SLI'd DX10 GPUs, are you talking about very high end cards (perhaps requiring the new 8pin PCI-E connectors), or will it be limited to 8800GTX (or below) level SLI?

I've been thinking about this at night, maybe Ill spend that money for dual 7900's because my motherboard is a p5nsli. I think if I got two direct x 10 cards it should be on a better system.Id say the cable should be about 14 inches long for some slack. I looked up your gpu, are you happy with it? Any recomendations for psu and dual cards.

I see your a lot smarted then me about this stuff, this is the first computer ive ever built.

So heres my system

intel pent d 2.8/2 gb corsair pc 6400/asus p5nsli mobo/gpu x800/250 gb sata drive/psu bestic 480 wat/ APEVIA MX-PLEASURE is the case
so with that system info what would you think... maybe a 500 dollar budget but that is flexible.

Thanks for the help

I'm quite happy with my 7900GT, but keep in mind that I bought it some time ago, before the 7950GT, 7900GS and other attractive upper-midrange cards were released.

Personally, I wouldn't SLI midrange cards. You'd get better performance from a single high end card. With an ~ $500 budget, I'd be inclined to get something like a single 8800GTS, and perhaps an Enhance 5150GH or Corsair HX520. Your CPU will still be the bottleneck, but if you were planning on upgrading you could even add a second 8800GTS. If you wanted a PSU that could support two 8800GTSs for future SLI, a Corsair HX620W would be a good choice.
