PSU Causing Bottleneck?

I'm wondering if my computer is underpowered, and if so what problems that might cause.

My PSU is the RAIDMAX RX-450 (came with my case) and has the same specs as the RX-450KW (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817152018)

It is running the rig in my sig below.

Is this PSU underpowered or just not good enough for my rig? If it is I would probably upgrade to this: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817182027 (which is probably overkill, but I like the modular design)

Thanks for any help.

Yes, that PSU is severely underpowered, with only a single +12V rail @ 14A!!!

The Rosewill power supply is much nicer.

All desktop power supplies are pretty much the same size, and will fit in all exsiting cases.

If you have an underpowered PSU, you may run into crashes in games, BSOD's, and possible performance would suffer.

I don't think I have run into any of that yet.

Will it effect the component lifetime and stability?

It could because a weak PSU will underpower your components. But trust us, your current PSU is really bad and you need a new one.

Performance probably will suffer!

I had a 450W with 29A on the 12v rails.

Now I have a 600W 48A Current 80A max Quad Rail PSU:cool:

I used to get 1.6k in 3DMark06, now with this new PSU I get 3.4k:) (at the same clocks)

All right, I'm convinced.

Is the Rosewill PSU a good choice? It has 2, 12V rails at 18A, does this mean it is essentially 36A on the 12v rails (I'm probably destroying the lingo here, sorry)?

Is that enough power?

Also, if this one is not recommended, suggestions are welcome. Under $75 with a modular cable system preferred. it need not light up.

Yea that one is good enough. About 30A on the 12V+ line is sufficient. And yea, 2 12V rails running at 18A does equal 36A :)

That cant be because the previous power supply was underpowered, since your system isn't a power hog at all. But it is possible that your previous PSU was just part of a bad batch.

I forgot to mention, that PSU I had was 450W peak, current was only 348W

New PSU installed, hooray!

I received my new PSU (Rosewill RP-550S) today and have it in.

I've got to say, even at the first start-up I noticed a difference, the computer just seems "snappier"; the LEDS even seem brighter.

One strange thing though; my monitor seems cripser and bighter for some reason. Can the PSU actually effect that (underpowering the GPU or something?), or am I just seeing things? :)

As for the monitor, i'm guessing your purposly trying to see improvements, so your imagining things. If I switched PSU's on you and didnt tell you, it's highly unlikely that you would notice a difference.

I can accept that;)

The new PSu is much quieter (1, 120 mm fan vs. 2, 80 mm fans in the old PSU)
