PSU fan

CPU fan

I would like some help in choosing a fan to replace my noisy CPU fan. I am looking for a simple, cheap, silent fan. The one I have on there is a generic AMD fan that came with the processor. The processor is an AMD 3.3 GHz Socket AM 3. I am not a gamer. I did not overclock the processor.

I am going to take a guess that you mean CPU fan as you say you have the stock AMD one :).

For something cheap but quieter and much better than the stock AMD HSF:

If you do mean your power supply fan, don't, you will need a new unit. You CAN change it, but to say that it is inadvisable is an understatement. You shouldn't ever open up a power supply for any reason for the simple fact that it is so darn dangerous. Even when disconnected from the mains the unit can still hold a lot of charge for a very long time and can easily cause you some serious damage.

I made a mistake. This is a CPU fan. I have corrected the heading and updated the info. Thanks for your post. I am looking for a quiet fan.

The stock fan is 70mm and good, quiet 70mm fans are few and far between.

At $20 - $5 MIR, the heatsink + fan I put is your best deal. It will transfer heat better and the fan is quieter whilst moving substantially more air.

The outcome will be a quieter fan in the first place, a cooler procesor and having the CPU cooler will make the fan spin slower, creating even less noise. All of that at only $2-3 more than your fan would be, which would on it's own still be louder than the heatsink + fan is
