Could not bring myself to buy a Rosewill. Cant get past there cases, came across a some a few years ago and where the cheapest pieces of crap I,ve ever worked with so I,m just turned off of anything with Rosewill name on it.

Hmm... Well I currently have 2 Rosewill cases and a Rosewill 92mm cooler. Amazing "pieces of crap" :P

The cases... I do have to agree. Quite flimsy, but for $20 you can hardly complain. Then there's the $8 cooler I bought for OCing my E2140. Hit 3.07, and idles in the low 30's. And it's still using stock thermal paste from the cooler itself.

I just can't help it but be impressed by the quality and price.

Thanks

I'm trying to keep it cheap, and I only need a cpu and cooler, mobo, ram, and psu
I already have an unkown wattage psu, but don't want to use it because of that. I was thinking under $200 for the parts without shipping and taxes.

P.S. Does anyone here use ubuntu from usb?

How cheap? Very cheap (IMO) is:

E1200
G31
Stock Intel Cooler (So none)
XMS2 DDR2-800 CL5 ($28 after rebates)
hec Orion 585W

I know this sounds weird, but I wanted it to be cheap, but also have a dual-core processor. and, x2's are way cheaper than any intel dual core that i've seen that is'nt under 2ghz. Basically, what i want is a semi-dedcent mobo, 2.0ghz or higher dual-core, 1 gig of ram, and a good psu

What you don't get is that speed is NOT everything. For example, before dual cores, the AMD Sempron 1.6GHz was as fast as the Intel Pentium 2.4GHz.

Now however, Intel takes the lead. However slow it may "seem", it will most likely smoke any competitor in it's class.

ell i am relatively new to computers, and my first computer was a p4 2.4 ghz, and it was the slowest ****ing peice of **** that i have ever used, and my next comp. was amd athlon 64 2.4 single core, and it was at least 12 times faster, and it actually had less ram, so i always assumed that intels were to slow.

Not anymore  They stopped the NetBust cache and "upgraded". They're lightning fast now. Intel currently has the edge over the Duals AND the Quads

OOOOOHHH....
well, then it's just bad experience. and, since that amd expired, i know have to reconfig a new set of parts. oh, well... more hours of web-browsing and product reasearching....ugh...

well, can anyone help me pick out a new psu, cpu and fan, mobo, and ram?
i was thinking about $200~ for those parts before tax and shipping

And, does anyone one use ubuntu at all???

Total: $195.96

If you could go up to $200.97, that would buy you an X2 4600+ for the processor. If you could spend around $25 more total, you could buy a better mobo, upgrade your memory quality a tad (with heat spreaders as well), and upgrade your processor a little more.

No kidding. While you're at it, why don't you just try to outfit him with an E8400. Oh wait, that's right...he has a budget. If you're too lazy to read the post you missed, it happens to be $200.00

Oscary for the win....again.
