PSU problem

I just built a new system but i can get it to turn on. I believe it has to do with a bad PSU. Reason being that I did not notice that it was a prior return item. It has a burn smell to it. All that it was able to do Is turn the mobo light on and then for a second turn the fans on before just shutting down. Could the PSU be my problem ?

I had the same problem once. It turned out that it wasn't the PSU (though I thought for sure it was) but was in fact a fried mobo. Yours could be a bad PSU though, I'd recommend trying out another one in the system to see if it works.
