psu sata cables

I'm new with all these sata plugs. My psu

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008

has 6x sata cables but I can't seem to push it all the way into my sata dvd drive. However if i use the Sata power cable with the 4 pins (same size at psu sata cable) at the end it fits into my dvd drive easily. Should my sata cables from the psu fit in my dvd drive or am i suppose to use the 4 pin peripheral cable to connect to the sata power cable?

Also my psu says the rpm is temperature controlled but it has no fan cable for the mobo. Does it mean the psu has a temperature regulator or fan info is given through the 24atx pins?

All the SATA connectors should work the same. If you have a SATA optical drive, it should be no different than those on a SATA hard drive.

when they talk about fans speed I assume that they are referring to the fan in the power supply itself being temperature controlled. That won't affect other fans in case or mainboard.

The sata cables are made the same for both HDD's and optical drives. The "6x" of course means there are 6 of them. Try all of them and if they still don't fit, make sure there is nothing wrong with the connector on the optical drive.
The temp gauge is for the power supply itself.

If the 4-pin molex (proper name :P) will fit use that and free up a sata cable, most perpipherals like fans or lights that use the molex often come with a molex in/out, so it is the same as having an extension with the perk of having an extra fan, so you can still power your drive and a fan from one cable or you can use the sata cable AND the molex and use 2 wires, which would be a bit of waste really.

Also if you keep an extra one free, that is the potential for another HDD :D SATA cables are starting to become like gold dust in PSU's now because more and more stuff are using em so try to only use em for hard drives if you can, saves reordering cables later and means you alwways know you have one free

I know you aren't doing either of them now, but it would be the better thing to do to use the molex instead. If you really really want to use the sata for whatever reason, post up the CD drive and i'll take a look for you.

Also, take the drive out and look at the power connectors, the one you think is a sats on might not be, it will be a very thin, fairly short line with it falling straight down at the end a little bit. And remember, unlike the molex, they don't go in just "below" the base of the drive, the top of the plug touches the bottom of the top half of the drive. It is hard to explain what i mean, but i often do the silly thing of acting like it is a molex and has it's own little plug area and am pushing the top plastic part of the plug into the connector, instead of the hole that goes over the connector.

Also, about your temperature regulation question, the PSU will have a thermal resistor in which as it gets hotter, it's resistence decreases so more surrent can flow down the wire to the fan. If you look at the power supply the grill at the bottom is where the fan is.

I think you are getting confused that the motherboard gives the power to everything, it does in a way give the power to the CPU, graphics cards, HDDs, chipsets etc, but all of that power comes from the power supply, the power supply can give itself power (the little LED they sometimjes have at the back to show the power is on and the fan are examples) without having to use the motherboard as a go-between, it does have all of the power after all :P

Some of the SATA cables have a little locking mechanism that you need to push.....they should fit just fine.
