Putting hard drive into old computer

Hi all,

I recently bought a second hand computer, took out the hard drive that came with it (i think it had been formatted anyway) and put a hrad drive from my other computer into it.

For some reason the new hard drive won't load into windows and always comes up with a screen that gives me some options of how to restart the computer, ie safe mode, normal mode, in command prompt etc.

Does anyone know what i can do to get my second hand computer to accept the new hard drive and go into windows?

each computer has to have its own fresh installation of the operating system to work, because each installation sets up a different configuration for each different computer as there are different components.

not all computers are the same and for that you can't interchange operating systems from one computer to the other.

Sometimes it works (I've accidentally tried before :P)

You could also try to do a repair before you reformat... it might work!

Yeah, it works now and then... I switched out motherboards once and the machine still worked. However, the upgraded motherboard simply had a newer version of the same Chipset (nforce4).

if i ever did anything... like replaced mobo - i would do a reinstall....

quick question - if i put a new CPU in... and just booted up would it be ok???
