Putting in a new HDD

my friends hard drive is broke on there dell laptop and they want me to put in a new one but i never did anything with laptops and im wondering is it pretty much as easy as putting one in a desktop or no? and do laptops have different connectors on them?

Yes, most have different connectors. Is this an older laptop? The older IDE hard drives will most likely have a funky connector to remove. If its a SATA then it may or may not have a connector to remove. All you do is take off whatever is on the old drive and put it on the new drive.
