putting more RAM into a laptop questions

i am planning on buying a laptop that had 512mb RAM and upgrading it with a stick of 1gb, i would like information about how easy it is to do this and also what type of RAM etc. i need with the specs of the laptop listed below. the laptop has pc2700 and i would like to upgrade that to a better model. i am also on a budget of around 50-60 pounds from a company in UK/ships tp UK

What model laptop do you have? Usually there is one stick under neath and one below the keyboard, some have both underneath. If it already has some pc2700 in there, I'd get a matching stick with either a 1gb or 512mb size.
 
Very simple. When you get it.. all the information you need will be in its manual booklet.

What type of ram and how to remove, install them.
 
Usually there are several removeable panels on the bottom of the laptop, one for the HDD, one for the ram, etc. The type of ram your computer takes is determined based on the mobo and cpu that you have. i would suggest buying PC3200 1gb ram, and trashing your 512 PC2700. The noticeable difference will be enormous. Here in the US, a stick of fairly good 1gb ram costs about $50-70, so I think you'll be fine in terms of cost.
