Hi,

some programs have an icon near the volume icon in the taskbar and when I minimize the program's window to tray its icon remains in the taskbar near the volume icon. Can I remove this icon, so that when I minimize the program to tray it'll keep running on the background without its icon near the volume one???

thanx

It all depends on the program. There might be options somewhere were it won't do this. You could also just go to task manager and close it though there.

Now if it's a startup program, something like hijackthis could get rid of it...

Go down to the line with the start menu, right click on an area that isnt occupied with a program, properties, check hide inactive programs, then you can customize things there.

I don't think you got it
I don't want to remove the program I want to remove its icon, on the contrary, I just want to remove its icon and keep it running, I don't want to see its icon in the taskbar while it's active and running.

Can I use the registry file for doing that?

Can I use the registry and modify it in order to remove a program's icon from near the volume one in the taskbar (without spoiling the program)? If yes, then how to???

I'm using win-xp

Right Click on the task bar > select 'Properties' > In the Notification Area click on 'Customize' > Find the icon and set the behavior to 'Always Hide'.
That will remove the icon from the system tray but it will keep the program running :D

I answered your question. Something like HijackThis WILL remove it from the registery and it WILL NOT open anymore

HOWEVER, if you can disable it from showing up that is best. For example, quicktime has an option under general settings(I think) where you can disable the icon...

I set the taskbar Properties to "always hide" the program's icon, nevertheless, the icon will reappear each time the program starts at windows startup and it'll remain beside the volume one. Why so? I don't know! Do you know? I don't think so! Does anyone see anything to do that I might not saw? 'Cause I'm gonna blow! you know! :) :D

if you want there are programs that hide applications that are being used, Taskbar Hide, does this, ummm? you might find it at download.com... just search for it and dl it. instal it, and select the programs you want to be hidden, and with a hotkey it will hide the program and it will run in the background. and if you want to see it again, just press the hot key again , and it'll appear. blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh im so tired orry for the typos :)
