AHH!!!!

i dont know what to upgrade to,a Q6600 or E8400

Now i can either go with 2 cores running at a faster speed of 3ghz (Stock) or go with 4 cores obviusly the q6600 at 2.4Ghz.

im thinking at the moment the e8400 would be a better choice for me because its faster and i might be able to OC it to 3.5-3.6Ghz

i was looking at some comments on other forums and theyre just confusing.

Yes,The e8400 is way better for games!Quad core is the future. If you decide on quad don't go with the q6600,go with a newer 45nm chip one.

thats the problem though, the price is just too high for a 45nm quad, but both E6400 and Q6600 are in my set price budget i made.

i dont realy want to spend more than £150

Then I would suggest to go with the e8400.It will be good for at least 2 yrs.of course there are going to be idiots that say it won't last you 6 months. But look at me I have the Pentium D 965 Extreme Edition. And my processor can handle any game out there and it was made back in the 2006.Get the e 8400 save up for a new CPU in two yrs or less.

this may help you abit as intell are dropping there prices in the third quater

the price drops might allow you to buy a 45nm quad core

sorry i dunno what one are 45nm atm (i only really look at the Q660 and hear about it)

sorry if it doesnt help

I would second that .You can wait till the prices drop and get a q9550 which would Oc high.I would get the best quad I could afford as alot people getting the dual e8400 plan on get a quad later on when they are optimized. The 775 socket may not have new Cpus developed for it so you would have to have a new Mb to support the new chipset anyways. So the current offerings may be the highest Ghz they produce for it.Time will tell.If you get the best you can for the 775 chipset it may last you a few years is what i am getting at.Then you can get the nehalem(sp?) or whatever is pinnacle chipset at that time.

*edit..I may need to take my own advice.LOl.Up till now I have just decided on a Q6600 ,have just been waiting on the new vid cards from Ati/Nvidia as well as reviews on the new p45 boards to decide on how to build, forgot how close we were to that 3rd quarter cpu drop.Does anyone know what date other than just 3rd quarter it will happen.Exact day maybe?... BTW thx for posting the chart headcrabcake.

E8400 for gaming, most can do 4.0Ghz on standard air cooling. Stable. (As long as you dont get one of those "unlucky" high voltage chips.)

Get the e8400. I just built a system with that cpu. I only have a slight OC on it and FSX flys great on it!

In my opinion, its not like your going to be dissapointed with the q6600's performance in games... the e8400 is just better.
id go with the q6600 for sure.. i have one now and its great. for gaming and all the normal stuff.

im going to wait until Intel drops their prices.

im hoping to pick up a 45nm quad.

Danny if your dead set on getting the Q6600,with this one you get Assasins creed with it :D

Good choice on waiting. And I know everyone everyone has confused you now :D but whichever you choose I think all these chips perform great in gaming as GPU does probably 95% of the work.I have a P4 so anything will be a step up for me when I decide on my build.lol.

Is it begining of Q3 or just sometime in Q3?

I assume it would be at the beginning of the quarter. That's how they usually work. Though I could be wrong

***off topic - I was just in Ashland this week. Went Monday and left on Wednesday...I was there for SOU. I like the city a lot, you are lucky to be living there. There's such a great atmosphere in that place. I hope to be there in a year.
