Q6600 Overclock. Higher VCore?

I'm having serious problems getting my Q6600 to run above 3GHz. Currently, the VCore is set to 1.32 in the BIOS. Actual VCore is 1.28. Intel doesn't recommend raising the VCore above 1.35. However, I believe if I raise the voltage above 1.38 - 1.4, I can get speeds @ 3.2 GHz +. Obviously, I'm concerned I'll fry my CPU.

Has anyone safely raised their VCore above the recommended setting for an Intel CPU? Should I raise the VCore that high?

Thnaks,
Michael

Where did you get 1.35V from, the back of the box?

The Q6600 can easily hit 1.5v fine. I would set it to 1.4-1.45v and see how high you can get it, although I wouldnt go any higher then 1.55v.

Voltage itself wont fry your CPU, but rather the temperature of the CPU. Make sure you monitor your temps and dont let it get above 65-70C full load.

Yeh just experiment with it, as long as you monitor the temperature and dont let it get too high then it should be fine.

depends on how you look at it... extra voldage can fry your cpu, no matter what cooling you have on it, its just a question of pushing it a bit too far.

Yes, from the back of the box. :o

I'm also having temp problems. See this thread if you're interested. I can use the help. :o

Thats not the highest Intel recommends,I believe it's just what Intel states should be the normal stock voltage.

@archangel, thats true, I shouldn't have said it doesnt make a difference, because it does, however the issue most people have with increasing the voltage is the increase in temps, which can cause damage to your processor. Which is why processors still work fine when they are using phase change cooling with highly overclocked processors.

you'll be fine as long as your idle temp is not over 50c and dont go over 1.6v if you're running on air. the G0 stepping can tolerate a little over 1.6+ if you have good cooling and maybe lap your cpu or at least just the heatsink. :)

I have the B3 stepping. Once I fix my heatsink/fan, and reapply TP, I'll work on the OC. I'll settle with 3.2 GHz/stable with good temps. Some are reporting speeds as high as 3.7 w/Q6600. We'll see...
