q6600 vs q8200 vs phenom 9950

So let me start with, I care absolute ZERO about overclocking. Purely for a gaming computer (4 gig corsair/9800 gtx). Seeing from benchmarks, the q8200 surpasses all. But the q6600 has a long sturdy history. And finally the phenom has a very nice price. Or perhaps a different cpu not mentioned? Which processor would Computer Forum recommend?

:D

I never even heard of the Q8200 overclocking before but if its like the Q6600 in that respect then I would go that route...if its not then go with Q6600.

First wave phenoms don't compare with overclock or speed sadly. The Deneb next month will show a HUGE improvement for AMD and will work on AM2+ boards so you might wanna wait if you can buy one for 230ish or so it might be worth while.

I see what you're saying about phenom, another main reason I chose it however is that Intel is closing down its socket 775, while AM2 is supposed to be AMD's socket for a while in the future?

I am leaning toward the q6600, but does anyone else want to voice their opinion?

q6600, more cache than a q8200, and if you are into overclocking, they can take more voltage with less consiquinces(can't spell) just don't go off trying to ram 1.6v through it on air

Yeah, q8200 is a decent cpu but its low multi(7x) kills it for overclocking, just for 3.5Ghz you would need 500fsb, which is hard to get on air with a dual core, let alone a quad..

This is for a pc that will never be overclocked, the guy Im building it for only cares that it runs his games and doesnt want to hassle with overclocking--ever. Yes, he is a bit crazy, but he's got his priorities .

If he is not OC'ing probably one of the core 2 duals would be better for todays games in FPS,maybe not once they get multicore optimized though
