Quad core motherboards?

I am in the market for a motherboard that can support Intel Core 2 Quad/Core.
The only ones that I can find on newegg are shitty Intel boards. What would you recomend?

The Asus models seen at the link here have nForce not Intel chipsets. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...5+1070625638+107171927&name=NVIDIA+nForce+600

They also have the Gigabyte model seen witth nForce 7050 chipset seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128079

For MSI, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2+1070625638+107171927&name=NVIDIA+nForce+600

Once you decide on the particular chipset since Intel is out you will find several seeing nForce or other chipsets. It's simply a matter of weeding out the Intel models.

When going to put a new board into a build I always lean towards those seeing an nForce chipset even with the AMD models looked over. Asus has a good support section on their site making things a little easier as well.

DDR3 memory is already available while the wait will be on the boards that will run it. You can look over what newegg has in stock at the moment at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2010170147+1052129233&name=240-Pin+DDR3+SDRAM

The only Asus models that will run DDR3 have what you didn't want namely Intel chipsets as seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...70625638+1070731640+1387931643&name=DDR3+1800

In fact the only boards reviewed at Tom's hardware are various models seeing Intel only chipsets. SLI doesn't see all of the gain it's cranked up to be. A quad core is when planning a lot of multitasking. One thing I noticed when running a game with a dual core model here is that the cpu temp actually drops since the cores had something to do rather then being idle.

If you are ever going to overclock your quad cpu the the only Nvidia chipset board I would buy would be a 780I series. The 680I 's do not overclock quads very well and do not perform as well with a quad. The P35 chipsets work very well as well as some of the X38 chipsets. Also in my opinion SLI is not worth the cost vs performance, I am building a new system at the moment consisting of a Asus P5K premium mobo, 8800GTS ( G92 GPU ) and a Q9450 quad core cpu. Just buy one really good card and put the extra money toward something else .

That's the word heard from another source on SLI and the waste for the most part. The games people run on their sytems were designed to run on single card systems while the idea behind two vpus insynce is to take the load off of the cpu as well as combine two over one. The actual gain being seen isn't nothing to write home about.

Well now im going to wait for the new intel CPU's to come out before i build now. I'll then get the new Extreme CPU with only one GeForce 8800 ultra 768mb instead of the 2 w/ SLI
I think that i will go with the asus mobo and get an antec 900 case.

The question now is weather i get the DDR3 or DDR2 RAM. Is the DDR3 worth the price/perfomance cost?

This isnt true. There are tons that support intel C2d/Quad. I recommend a nice MSI, Gigabyte, or EVGA board.

Seeing 1600 for an fsb since DDR3 memory goes that high will also mean paying the higher prices seen on the new DDR3 Asus models that will easily run any Intel quad cores out. A pair of Asus models can see along with a pair of open box deals at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...70625638+1070731640+1387931643&name=DDR3+1800

The preference here however is boards seeing nForce not Intel chipsets. That's regardless of Intel or AMD models in that sense. But more models will follow besides the two seen there if you plan to wait for a few months.
