Quad Core Support, but no SLI

ok, I'm looking for a mobo used for gaming, however I do need SLI, because I think I will be purchasing a high end, I just need a basic quad core support with reliable full functionality.
For the record do you need SLI to run or support x2 video cards (the cards that come with two of the same model into 1)

You could always get the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4, that has quad-core support but instead of SLi it features ATi's own Dual card setup called Crossfire. It's a lot less that the likes of boards such as the eVGA 680i. But the eVGA has SLi and the ability for high speed memory and higher FSB's.

yea but i heard sli is buggy with alot of cards right now and is not up to perfection, and is highspeed memory really need for gaming, i mean atleast past ddr2 800, because the ddr2 1200 memory cost a ton of money and I'm not sure if any games really need memory that fast.

yea but I don't plan on using SLI, so what is the best card with supprot for quad core but no SLI, i've heard of the Asus P5B, and its only $125, should I get it instead of the 680i. Is there any advantage to the 680i besides its SLI capability.
