Quad Core worth it?

Hello,

I have a system with intels core 2 duo e6600. Now I was wondering if it was time to do an upgrade. Is it worth getting a INTEL QX6700 EXTREME QUAD CORE? I need to for 3d , animation stuff. Will it increase the overal rendering speed? also how speed is it, compared to intels core 2 duo e6600?

btw will the price drop for the qx6700?

I would look into your program and see if it even supports quad-cores, if it doesnt, then theres no point in upgrading.

And in my opinion, if you already have the E6600 then you should wait a bit for the new quad-cores to come out that will show an even bigger improvement. What you could do for the meantime is overclock your processor.
 
Yea but isnt quad cores already out? like the INTEL CORE 2 QUAD QX6700 and Q6600 or do you mean newer quad cores are awaiting arrival?

btw yea the quad core supports the appz im running. I just saw some results that showed 89% speed increased in 3ds max. Im using a 3d software (3ds max, maya) so for apps like that u need a killer rig with the powerfullest possible.

and like 530$ for the QX6700, atm they aren't worth it since they'll be dropping prices in a little more than a month
 
i have a quad core, personally i think its worth it.. i can run 6-7 online games at a time while running iexplore itunes bearshare limewire aim and so much other shit at a time... its worth it
 
At the moment, I don't think quad core is worth the premium that we have to fork out. And frost01, why the heck do you want to run 6-7 online games? Can you play all of them at once? O_O I have a dual core and I have tried running two games at once, Command and Conquer Zero Hour and Fear, on dual monitors, one on each monitor. It looked pretty cool, but I will never do it again, because I can't play two games at once. I don't know, maybe I'm just not as talented as you are!!!
 
But the point is, even though you CAN do it, I will not pay a premium for the privilege. I will only pay for what I use and need, and if you are only getting a quad core to show off to your friends by running 6 games, then you are wasting your money.
 
actually i got the quad cuz i produce music with my computer.. play games and... well u get the point i do actually use it.
