Quad crossfire(4x) vs Dual crossfire(2x)

Just wondering how many of you are into crossfiring, and how many have taken it as far as quadfire(both ways of doing it, with single gpu cards and a pair of duals)? Good and bad things you've noticed with both? Which do you prefer and why?

I hear anything above dual sli/CFX crashes a lot. I have heard that SLi is more realiable when running more cards, though.

Ah, that's good to know. I wonder why that is? Is it the fault of motherboard? Psu? The cfx/sli bridge?

Just taking a guess, but I think it is either the CF bridge or possibly the drivers.

I would guess drivers.There really isnt to much support for anything above dual sli/cfx. I am guessing, thoogh im not sure, 2 690s would be more reliable than 4 680s, or 2x 5870 x2s would be more realiable than 4 5870s, but it is just a guess.

that s illogical. Driver wise there is no difference between a 690 and 2 680s. and a 5870 x2 is called a 5970.

So anything like 2 5970's or 6990's is a bad idea?

there is a guy, idr his username, on here that runs 2 6990s. i do not see a reason why it would be needed though unless your using like dual 1600p monitors. remember, it is 2 6970s as is.

He got a pretty good Unigine heaven score. Its just ridiculous overkill. two 680s would get everything you need and more.
