Quadcore complete build under $500.00 can it be done?

I'd like to get setup for game development using the Unreal Engine, requirements say a quad core and 8 gigs of ram...

I'm curious if there is a quad core cpu that could be paired with basic parts to make a ready-to-go desktop that can meet these needs...

I'd probably have to use AMD right? Which may not necessarily be a bad thing.

$500.00 is out of my mind right?

Their recommend spec also ask for GTX 470 or 6870.
So it would be a GTX 750ti or R9 270 for today card.

this will meet their recommended spec.

wow 1 TB? that's amazing... curious if it could be cheaper?

Thanks for your time. I'm wondering if that can fit in one of the three computer cases that I have.

If they use a standard ATX layout they should.

If you want to save money, you can use the free Windows 10 technical preview. However, keep note that it is a beta version, and isn't compatible with all programs out there

$503.96 is reasonable, I am hoping I can also do video editing and 3D modeling which I so far onky use Google SketchUp which isn't that intensive.

In that case, I would suggest you consider spending little extra for AM3+ platform. Probably extra $60

For video editing and modeling you might want something with more CPU resources. The FM2 platform only offers 2-module/4-core setups whereas AM3+ has octo core CPUs for around a similar price.

If you have some buddies in the NYC area that could get you one, MicroCenter even has a few FX bundles like an 8320E and motherboard for ~$120.

Oddly enough I haven't been to NYC after living in NY for 9 years...

I'll have to look into what you are talking about.

So many things on the mind.

Looking at the list above FM2 I believe you are referring to the motherboard which in that case do I have to look at both a motherboard and a new processor?

I really have to look at what makes the parts compatible... chipset? 775, something like that?

Could just go for distributed computing, a bunch of pentium 4's rigged up as a quad or more...

I'll more than likely go with your suggestion, it's not so much "want" but how much can I spend ha

Anyway thank you all for your time.
