Quality GPU? - Help me finish my build!

Hello!

I'm about done with all the big decisions on my new build and am looking for a GPU and some other parts.
I kinda splurged online when buying my first parts.
The original intent was to do a sub-$600 machine, and I've already spent $400... So now I'm kinda strapped for cash.

What I just bought:
i5 3570K ($190)
ASUS P8Z77-V PRO ($145)
Rosewill HIve 650w ($66)

What I'm going to reuse from my old PC:
HDDs
CD/DVD
2 1gb of RAM
Front interface ports

This will mainly be a gaming computer, but will be also used for some graphic design & 3-D modeling.

Because my original plan seems unrealistic... I'm dropping it. Now I'm just looking for good parts to finish my build.
They don't need to be THE BEST, just quality parts. Perhaps there are some deals out there?
I am willing to sacrifice in places right now where it is easy to upgrade later.

Keep in mind I still have to buy:
a CASE
Fans
8+gb RAM
1 SDD (boot)
Other things? (Am I being dumb?)

So, where should I go from there? Should I buy used or new?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

Your Windows off your old computer will not work with the new one as it is tied to the old motherboard, but i think you can buy an upgrade and that might work or call MS and say you swapped mobos and cpus in an upgrade and they might help you.

You also need to make sure those 2 1gb sticks of ram are DDR3 not DDR2, and i'm going to bet it's DDR2 which wont work with the new mobo.

I would drop the SSD from your list, maybe get it in a year or 2 or something but it isn't necessary for your build so it is wasting you budget really, not saying they are a waste, but for what you want to spend, it's not cost effective.

And you also don't need fans, they come with the case, and you really need a WiFi adapter if you don't have an ethernat cable, prob one of the most important parts of the computer.

Now that i'm don with that, we are to the graphics card...you don't want to spend less than 100 for a gaming computer on the graphics card, but since your trying to keep it low i'm guessing you don't want to spend another 200 on it either. Unfortunately you didn't pick the greatest power supply, but it turns out from a quick search that that actually is a decent one (they get different series from different manufacturers, that one is from a better one, it's essentially a partially modular OCZ ZS from what i read on a review), so since it's a 650w you're fine there. I'd look at the HD7850 2GB, but those are close to 200, the 1GB's are fine and around 170, but if you spend that much it's worth the 20 to go to the 2GB. Otherwise I'd recommend the HD7770 as the GTX650ti is too close the the 7770 in performance but the 7850 in pricing. But you said you will be doing some modeling with it, which normally can take advantage of the CUDA cores of the GTX650ti, so you need to either look up your programs or post what you will use here so we can say what the best option is, and we need a number for the GPU too really.

You might really be better off with a used last gen GTX 400 or 500 series card, they've gotten pretty cheap and should be a good leap better overall.

Thanks for all the info! I'll be looking at your suggestions.

As to what programs I'm using: almost everything in the Adobe suite, AutoCAD, Revit & 3DS Max.
