question about a dell inspirion 6000 and xp home edition

He's a long way from me. Wanted me to fix it. Im trying to fix it first but hard and slow. If i need to, can i use a xp home edition i have from years ago and install the disc and use his key that is on the bottom of the laptop?

for the record i try rebooting and used CTL + F11 and get to a recovery partition. Didn't do nothing and just goes into windows.

As long as it's an unbranded disc (not a retail disc or from an OEM such as Dell, HP, etc.) then yes you can use that disc and his key.

This was a computer build. Its the original disc i had. Not oem. says for distribution with new pc only. is that ok or is it a no.
