Question about adding wireless to HP Firebird

Hey all,

First I apologize for the question if it's a bit stupid :o I've been out of the PC world for years and am not sure where to really begin to try and get my desktop wireless.

I have a HP Firebird 802 and I wanted to make it usable on my wireless Airport Extreme network at home. I know I could probably purchase a USB type antennae to make it wireless, but was hoping there was another option that was more contained (I'd like to avoid clutter if possible).

I noticed there's a slot that's "ExpressCard/54" and was wondering if there was something that would work well and fit in there?

Or are there any hardware options I could install in the computer itself that would work?

It's been years since I've done any kind of installation/upgrades on a PC and am hesitant because I don't want to mess anything up (and don't even know where/how it would fit in this system).

If anyone has any experience with this on the particular computer, any help would be great.

Thank you very much!

Hi,

I know what you mean with the USB ones on a laptop. Yes you should be able to get a WiFi on PCI Express. Try google WiFi PCI Express. I had a small concern, the airport extreme, thats no apple is it, probably not but just checking, you may have issues connecting apple with windows.

Hey MrOmelet,

VoodooDan from HP here. For wireless, the Firebird 802 system has two Mini PC-Express slots available. A wireless card like Intel’s 4965AGN is a perfect solution (and what I use in mine). As for the antennae, you’ll need to use the same internal antenna that a laptop uses - here’s an image that can help you out: http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/eshowmall/T0013.jpg

You can run the antenna around the inside perimeter of the case so it’s not visible. I hope this helps – give me a shout if you have any other questions.

Cheers

VoodooDan
