Question about AGP on Dell Dimension

I recently purchased the PNY GeForce 6600 DDR 256MB AGP video card, only problem is my computer has PCI slots, not AGP. I have a blank spot where a video card can go but I'd need to have it professionally installed, right now the computer has the Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller. Thats what came with it, and like I said there is no video card slot installed on here so that would have to be installed by someone who knows what they are doing. The computer is a Dell Dimension 2400, Pentium 4, 768MB of RAM it's 3 yrs old or so. I just want to be able to play some new games on here, because that crappy one that is installed on here won't play the new games at all, it just crashes me back to windows desktop. Can I install a AGP slot on this motherboard? Seeing how theres no slot installed right now?

Not that strange... I've seen plenty of computer hardware like that... that's just so they can use the same silicon board for different models.

There is not really a whole lot you can do... unless you want to upgrade to a new mobo, or trade in for a PCI graphics card.

My gateway has a "missing" slot for AGP 4x, hence i have to have a PCI card. Its the only way to go if you want to upgrade at all.

Oh well, That sucks!

I guess you'll have to buy a new MOBO then... It shouldn't be hard to find one with an AGP slot, 478 socket and DDR RAM slots...

Burgerbob, I'd like to know the stoy about your pink case :P

dang that sucks, because it looks so easy to just put one in that empty slot lol the PCI video card for this computer is 150$+ I cant find anything cheaper than that, I only paid 90$ for the AGP card  . Thanks a lot for the responses though.

I'd ask in local PC stores if they can do it before you give up, it's worth a try.

Also, I wouldn't bother getting a PCI card, they are so old and aren't very good, better to save your money for a new computer.

but yea, that is my computer, I have another dell dimension 4550 that has AGP card slot and thats what I play all the new games on but the thing is so dang slow, its the household shared computer. But I'm wondering now what card is better the PNY one I have right out of the box or the ATI RADEON X1050 that is in there now? It is also a 256mb ddr.
