Question about buying RAM

So im thinking about buying some more RAM for my computer b/c its not as fast as i would like it. I already have 2 256mb DDR ram in my computer now and my motherboard can take up to 4GB total. what i want is two 1GB sticks of RAM. So the questions i have are,

Do i need to get DDR to go along with my existing RAM. Or can i mix that with DDR2. Will it be faster?

The RAM i have now are both PC2700. Do i have to get that again or can i mix those with 2 PC3200?

And is their a certain brand i should get. I was thinking of buying some off Ebay.

but without knowing that i would suggest to u to get rid of the ddr and get some ddr2 running at 800mhz

You need DDR RAM. The 'socket' of DDR RAM is different from DDR2 RAM. You are not able to plug DDR2 RAM to a DDR RAM slot.

Double check your motherboard spec. and see what it support.

Go for faster FSB if ur choosing DDR1 it will enhance your speed. PLZ check the specifications of ur MOBO before buying as well.

Maximum Memory Capacity: 4096MB
Currently Installed Memory: 512MB
Available Memory Slots: 2
Number of Banks: 4
Dual Channel Support: Yes
CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
CPU Family: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz Model 2, Stepping 9
CPU Speed: 2992 MHz

thats what i have. Now what can i get

that does not tell us what we want so hear take 1 of your ram chips out read the label an tell us if it says DDR or DDR2 an u can get what ever that chip is if just DDR u can go up to 400MHz ram i think it will be just DDR cos my mum has that processor an thats what hers can support

as it says at the top of the thread, i already know i have DDR.

1) You cannot mix.
2) You can mix with PC3200, but it will be downclocked to PC2700's speed.
3) No. Most of eBay's memory are ECC, while yours is Non-ECC memory.

Shop offa: www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com

Some are, but not all. You just have to search for DDR400 ram and you get plenty of non-ECC results.
With ebay be careful what DDR1 RAM you buy. You will often get high density RAM that doesn't work with a lot of motherboards
