hey guys, i got a call today from my local cable company telling me that i need to slow down my download speeds with what ever program i am using to obtain my torrents. they said they dont mind the music downloading stuff, but just to slow the speeds down. i got a bunch of cd's at once, which they also said they can cut me off completely or limit my speeds. so i am sure i am on their "watch list" now. haha. so is this of this true? im sure it is to an extent....

Of course it is, and that's really cool of them to be so nice about it. Obviously you were pulling a lot of data over a long period of time. Mostly when I hear about this type of thing, someone has been called, and they just limit it right there and then, or completely cut them off. If I were you, I would DEFINITELY cut down on the download, and not push it.

I know that there are a lot of local companies now for one i work for that will watch uploads mostly but some have moved to downloads. My guess is even though they warned you they also capped your speeds a little lower temporarily to show you they are there and they more then likely also are going to be watching you for at least 2 months to 6 months and if it happens again they wont be as nice...

well i played with some settings and got it set in the program to where it will not download over 24kb/s and uploading is as low as possible. so hopefully that will solve the problem, if not i guess they got my number....

It really depends on how long you download for. Because at 24KB/s, if you download for a full 24 hour day, you would have already sucked up about 1.97GB per day, and that doesnt include the files you download while surfing the web, streaming video/music, or downloading other files.
