A pocket magnifying glass and small pocket lght can help as well as looking at the board diagram if no color coded areas are seen on the block of small pins. The diagram will show what pin is negative or positive while a close look at the ends of the wires themselves will usually see the + plus or -minus sign regardless of whether the pair is red and black, white and green, white and black printed on them right about where the small plug is on the ends.

generally white is the negative for all the different cased i've worked with. anything other color is the positive
I've seen green be the ground wire with white as the lead on various occasions. But the first thing is to simply look over the wires coming in from the panel to see what is marked on each one and then reviewing the diagram to see just what pins are for what button or led if not an audio jack, port, or even speaker found in some cases. A group of wires bunched together is generally tagged for panel or usb ports.
