Question about cpus !

Ok i know that intel had with the durons and then amd came with the xp's.
But what category does the 64bit line coem into. I know some are sempron, but how can you tell., and whats teh main differences.

Pretty much the way I understand it is that a 64bit processor can process more information at once. I may be wrong. Hopefully a more knowledgable person will post.
 
your question isn't that clear but i'll try to help you anyway. :)
there are 64 bit versions of the sempron that are based on the athlon 64 line of processors. generally they have lower clock speeds and a smaller amount of cache.
there are no X2 (dual core) semprons at this time.
to tell if your cpu is capable of 64 bit operation you should refer to the packaging or download CPU-Z and see what information that comes up with.
the main difference with 64 bit cpu's are that they can process bigger numbers. also, to see the benefit of a 64 bit system (on a 64 bit operating system) you should have twice as much memory installed as the data being used is twice as big.

By moving to a 64-bit addressing scheme, the possible address space grows exponentially from 232 to 264, so that the x86-64 ISA allows for what seems like a practically unlimited amount of memory. The theoretical peak size of a 64-bit address space is 16 exabytes, an extremely large number. Current AMD64 processors allow up to 40 bits of physical address space, or one terabyte, and up to 48 bits of virtual address space, or 256TB. Initial versions of WinXP x64 will support as much as 128GB of physical RAM and up to 16 terabytes of virtual memory

athlon 64 and p4 em64t do 64 bit processing. sempron 64 does 64 bit processing. it doesnt benefit you at all until vista comes out though. from my understand the windows XP 64 bit edition drivers dont work completely yet.
by the way a duron DEFINITELY doesnt do 64-bit processing. id upgrade asap if i were you.
 
you said intel came with durons and amd came with xp's? AMD made duron's and athlons xp's, and now the 64 bit.
