Question about dual graphics cards and physics accerlartor

Hi im new to the forum and a bit of a novice with computers. I boguth my computer 4 years ago and was looking to upgrade. Are the dual graphics card necessary and whats the deal with these physics accerlators or whatever they are called. Would i be fine just getting a decent graphics card or will i need two soon? Thanks.
 
If you bought your computer 4 years ago then you cant use dual-graphics cards with your current computer, since they require dual PCI-E x16 slots and an SLI-ready motherboard/video card. But basically, it allows you to use two video cards to improve gaming performance.

Physics accelerators are still pretty useless now, but they do all the physics work in games, which should allow for more physics as well as improved framerates.

Yeah i figured i need a new mother board for that. And the the physics thingy seems kinda gimicky to me. So do think id be fine for couple more years with just a better card? Thanka for your reply.
