Question about External DVD Burner

I'm looking to purchase an external DVD burner and the one that I came across intrigues me.

Its an LG GSA-5163D and its listed interface is E-IDE/ATAPI. Now can someone explain to me how an external drive functions with an internal interface.

what do you mean? are you planning to mount it inside the case?

or how the inside of a labeled external drive differs from a labeled internal drive.

The Interface acctually is Firewire and USB2.0 , Not E-IDE/ATAPI, you might want to double check that. I have the same drive..

See the only places that I have looked have been online at different retailer's sites. And at every location they list E-IDE/ATAPI as the interface device, even off the LG website.

But I did manage to find one picture of the Burner that was not of the device itself, but of the box. And right on the box it says USB 2.0. But yet it still lists it as E-IDE/ATAPI.

Its just really stupid.

It probably means that it uses E-IDE/ATAPI to connect the physical drive to the USB/firewire controller, rather than connecting it directly to the usb/firewire controller.
It is the same kind of thing as external hdd caddies having IDE interfaces, the ide just connects to the USB controller
